Standing tall in Mayerthorpe, this Grain Elevator is one of Alberta’s last wooden grain elevators still in place. Built in 1966 by the Alberta Wheat Pool, this structure represents the final generation of traditional prairie elevators—built with wood crib construction and clad in horizontal siding. Beside it, an annex from 1940 adds to the story, reflecting the evolving needs of a growing agricultural community. Over the decades, this site handled millions of bushels of grain, serving as a key hub along the rail line for local farmers. In 2007, it was designated a Provincial Historic Resource, protecting the elevator, its machinery, and original signage as a vital piece of Alberta’s rural history. #GrainElevators #Mayerthorpe #AlbertaHistory #PrairieHeritage #AgricultureCanada —Disclaimer— The content on this YouTube channel is for informational and entertainment purposes only.
