Various shots of rebels training STORYLINE: There has been renewed violence in Indonesia's northern Aceh province. On Sunday, two people were killed in clashes between the rebel Free Aceh Movement and Indonesian government security forces. Violence in the region is beginning to deter foreign investment. Exxon Mobil, the U-S-based energy company, shut down its natural-gas operation in Aceh in March, citing danger to its employees and contractors. It says since 1999, four off-duty workers have been killed. Company vehicles had been hijacked around 50 times, and two company planes have been hit by ground fire. Company buses were also stopped and burned. The empty plant is still being guarded by government forces who say they should be able to make it safe for Exxon Mobil staff to return within weeks. Indonesia has warned Exxon Mobil that if it does not resume pumping gas from its Aceh fields by July, its operations in the strife-torn province will be taken over by state company Pertamina. But violence in the province shows no sign of abating. Rebels from the Free Aceh Movement, seen here training, are heavily armed and highly equipped. They say they are fully capable of taking on the Indonesian army. The rebel Free Aceh Movement has been waging a war against Indonesian rule for an independent homeland since the 1970s.
