Maa Naina Devi Mandir is a revered Hindu temple dedicated to Goddess Naina Devi, a form of Shakti. Located in Nainital, Uttarakhand, the temple stands majestically on the northern shore of the picturesque Naini Lake, and is one of the most prominent Shakti Peethas in India. The temple holds deep spiritual importance in Hindu mythology. It is believed to be one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, the sacred sites where parts of Goddess Sati’s body fell when Lord Shiva carried her corpse after her self-immolation. According to legend, the eyes (nayan) of Sati fell at this very spot, giving the place its name – Naina Devi. "Naina" means eyes in Sanskrit and Hindi. The present structure was built in 1883 after the original temple was destroyed in a landslide. Over the years, it has become a place of pilgrimage, attracting thousands of devotees annually. The temple has a traditional North Indian style of architecture with a bright red facade and ornate details. Maa Naina Devi Mandir is a symbol of faith, resilience, and divine grace.
