An end of season visit to Wombleton Caravan Park gave me the opportunity to redo one of my favourite countryside rides - Rievaulx Woods. Nestled just north of Helmsley are the ruins of one of Yorkshires great abbeys. Surrounded by steep riggs and dales the River Rye winds its way through some glorious landscape, the perfect backdrop for a bike ride. There are plenty of places to park, even though I was asked not to park at the visitor centre on a busier day, presumably so more customers would have access to the cafe..... Although only short the ride does pack in a lot of elevation, bridleways, grass fields, farm track and quiet back roads, and is often filled with wildlife. Whatever you ride you will need fitness and determination to tackle all the climbs, but the descents are well worth the effort. The ride could be added onto the pedalnorth.com Helmsley loop, but this would make it a big day out. Both rides are available on my Komoot profile, and you can scan the QR code near the start and at the end of the video for the GPX for this one. As always I am riding my 2019 Whyte E150S, bought from and serviced by Wetrocknride in Hartlepool. At over 4900 miles I can hear the motor is starting to grind a bit, so, there could be a major service coming up! Robert at @EMTBnorthyorkshiredad has a video of this ride and he has slightly better weather than me for his ride, so check that out his edit to see more of the glorious colours that the ride offers. Similar rides in North Yorkshire can also be found at @manyadescent822 , again, very well worth a look. The camera is a GoPro Hero 7 Black and the drone is a DJI Neo. Follow me on Strava and Komoot as Bob Manwaring and Instagram as @bobthebimbler. The photos at the start of the video are from Mrs Bimbler, thank you Gill! @wombletoncaravanpark2174
