Let’s explore the depths of it in the video. Obi-Wan stares at Anakin’s broken body as he desperately tries to crawl up to him. The Jedi has lost most of his limbs and makes a feeble effort to approach. However, it is useless, and though he doesn’t notice it, the lava river is slowly creeping up to him, waiting to consume Anakin in fire. Obi-Wan should leave now; he senses figures approaching, and there is nothing left for him here. Anakin is a lost cause; that is what he tells himself. He betrayed the Jedi Order and led to the deaths of thousands. Even as he says it, he can feel the darkness within him. It is like an armor, surrounding his heart and leaving him almost fully encased within it. Almost. Despite everything, he still senses something within Anakin beyond the shell, beyond the evil he has witnessed. Something good. Something honorable and resembling the man he once knew. He sees it for only a moment, and it gives Obi-Wan pause. He wants to turn back and leave him, telling himself that he deserves it. However, he cannot bring himself to do that, even as he hears the fire crackling. Before he realizes it the Jedi Master is heading back down to the lava river and hooking Anakin’s arm over his shoulder and dragging him to safety. His fallen apprentice curses him the whole way, but soon passes out once they reach the ship. When they reach the medical center, Obi-Wan has both Anakin and Padme treated by the medical droids. Anakin long loses consciousness and remains that way as the droids report the extent of his injuries. His limps will need to be replaced, but his burns are not nearly as bad as they could have been if Obi-Wan left him there. It is a small victory, but the least of his concerns. He checks up on Padme as she is in the middle of the birthing process. It is long and drawn out, requiring Obi-Wan to offer his help in healing her and keeping her vitals steady. However, what truly helps is the knowledge that Anakin is alive and that Obi-Wan saved him. This gives the senator the strength to carry on until they hear the wailing from a pair of infants. Obi-Wan soon has them in his arms as Padme is given a chance to recover and regain her strength. Despite the exhaustion, she manages a smile as she takes them in her arms. For a moment, everything seems right in the galaxy as they can forget about the chaos happening all around them. Obi-Wan allows it to linger for a moment longer, but then clears his throat and looks at her. Obi-Wan: Padme, you know that we cannot remain here for long. Padme: I know. Once Anakin wakes up, we can- Obi-Wan: No, you need to leave ahead of them. He should not see you or your children and go into hiding. Padme: What? But you sensed good in him, you told me as much. Obi-Wan: I said I sensed a shred of good in him, layered under that shell of darkness he keeps around himself. That is not enough for me to let my guard down; it certainly isn’t enough for me to trust him around you. Padme: That is not for you to decide… Obi-Wan: And tell me, after everything he’s done with you. Do you think he can still be trusted now, with your children? Padme: So that is it then? After all of this, we just become strangers? Obi-Wan: No. I will keep an eye on him and see how he comes out after this. There are some people who become worse after something like this. I need to make sure that he isn’t one of those. Padme purses her lips and looks over at him. She then glances at her children, both of whom are just resting in her arms. Then, she slowly relaxes and takes a deep breath. Obi-Wan places a hand on her shoulder as he calls for a ship to take Padme off-world so she can hide somewhere. Obi-Wan: For what it is worth, I don’t want to imagine Anakin turning evil like this. I do think there is hope for him. When Anakin wakes up days later, he finds himself in a half-empty medical station. His room is deserted save for a single medical droid and the steady droning of the machines around him. He glances down at his arms and sees that both of them are fully metallic, and when he lifts the blanket, he sees the same is true for his legs. He tries to stand up, but the movements feel awkward and clumsy. As soon as he plants his foot on the ground and begins to stand up, he wobbles unsteadily. #starwars #starwarswhatif #whatif
