Turkey has been officially removed from the F-35 program by the United States since 2019, while Canada is now considering looking for alternative European-made fighter jets, even though it had previously committed to buying F-35s from Lockheed Martin. The United States' decision to remove Turkey from the F-35 program was the result of Ankara's purchase of the Russian-made S-400 air defense system. Washington considered this purchase to endanger the confidentiality of F-35 technology and was inconsistent with NATO's security interests, as a result of which all cooperation on F-35 production, training, and delivery to Turkey was unilaterally terminated.
