A green 1974 Dino (Ferrari) 246 GTS arriving at and leaving the 2024 San Marino Motor Classic at Lacy Park. This car, chassis no. 07862, was purchased by its original owner as a birthday present for his wife. A couple months later in December 1974, after it had been driven for only around 500 miles, it was reported stolen after the couple's anniversary dinner at a Los Angeles restaurant. In February 1978, the car was unearthed after some boys digging outside a Los Angeles residence discovered it buried underground and notified authorities. It was later determined that the disappearance was part of an elaborate insurance scam in which hired thieves were tasked with dismantling the car and making it unrecoverable while its owner fabricated a story leading to its disappearance. The car, equipped with factory "chairs and flares" options (Campagnolo wheels, Daytona-style seats, and flared fenders), was purchased from Farmers Insurance by its current owner who had it professionally restored by Ferrari expert Giuseppe Cappalonga and fitted with the vanity plate "DUG UP".
