SO The National Association of Realtors and the Department of Justice are at it again and Real Estate Agents are definitely in for some interesting times ahead with regard to how we work with buyers, what matters now is what we do when we have conversations with our prospective buyers AND sellers. The bottom line, we're in for some change, but it likely won't be even close to be decided for quite some time, but there are some things we can definitely act on today to make ourselves better Sales professionals. Here are a few of my thoughts: Our job is not to complicate matters or try to change anything that we have no control over, our job is to understand what's happening and see how we're going to adapt the way we do business. Do our consumers have options available to them? Of course, but do they know what those agency options are? Are we clear on what we do/provide when we're talking about our compensation and our right to it? Are we clear on what separates us from other Realtors and why that ensures that we're properly compensated for our value? Are we clear in our presentations? Are we examining the conversations we're having about our compensation? The fact is, attorneys have been given a big win in these lawsuits and we can expect many more copycat lawsuits to follow, which will lead to lots of speculation about potential changes to Buyer Agency and everything associated with it, including access to lending and affordability for lower income buyers, FHA, VA, etc. This certainly has the possibility to affect Dual and Designated Agency relationships, as well as the potential for an increase in Buyers pursuing buying houses without an agent, which could open them up to a whole slew of legal liability. What we need to do instead is BE THE ANSWER to the question. We need to EMPOWER buyers agents through tools, systems, and business practices that not just protect our business, but our clients as well. Let me know your thoughts!
