SANT DHARA : EPISODE 3 ( NEW VIDEO SERIES ON THE SAINTS OF MAHARASHTRA )

The new series Sant Dhara is all about the Marathi Saints Poets who invigorate the society with improvement in social and moral fabric of the people and thus the pride of Marathi became synonymous with the pride of Hinduism . India is considered an Arsha Bhumi or land of rishis/sages. The sages while doing penance, heard the Vedas from the Gods and humans did not compose them and that is why they are called “Apourusheya” or "Apauruseya" (non human origin-superhuman or impersonal or authorless) and are therefore called “Shrutis” ( that were heard). Vedas exist eternally and there was no authorship for the Vedas. Bhakti Movement was started by Saint-poet Jnaneshwar Maharaj in 13th century and was further developed by a series of Saint-poets thereafter upto 17th century to tone up the confidence of the people and invigorate the society. Some of the lower caste persons like Namdev, Chokhamela, Tukaram and others by degree of their devotion to Lord Vithoba, became saints irrespective of their castes. Lord Vithoba was so generous that He did many miracles in the lives of the above saints and also manifested before them. Thus several saints were instrumental for restoring religious and spiritual revival among the people. The Medieval Maratha Saints who had brought about the religious and spiritual renaissance from 13th to 18th century in the country as a whole with main focus in Maharashtra, are the following prominent poet-saints. 1) Jnaneshwar (1275 to 1296) 2) Namdev (1270 to 1350) & Janabai 3) Eknath (1533 to 1599) 4) Tukaram (1608 to 1651) & Samarth Ramdas (1608 to 1681) 5) Mahipati, (1715 to 1790), biographer of the above saints.
