The Kia EV9 has earned a reputation as one of the finest electric vehicles on the market, combining efficiency, practicality, and luxury. For 2026, Kia is raising the stakes with the introduction of the EV9 GT, a high-performance version boasting 501 horsepower. This electrifying crossover made its debut on Thursday at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Unlike the standard all-wheel drive EV9, which features front and rear motors producing 189 horsepower each, the EV9 GT upgrades to a 214-horsepower motor in the front and a 362-horsepower motor in the rear. While the combined output may not align mathematically with 501 horsepower, Kia explains that the motors reach their peak power at different speeds. Additionally, final horsepower figures are still being refined ahead of production, meaning the GT's performance may increase further. Kia estimates the EV9 GT will accelerate from zero to sixty miles per hour in just 4.3 seconds, a significant improvement over the GT-Line AWD model. To handle this power, the GT comes equipped with larger brakes, adaptive suspension, Continental tires on unique 21-inch wheels, and an electronic rear limited-slip differential for enhanced cornering capabilities. A standout feature of the EV9 GT is its Virtual Gear Shift technology, borrowed from Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 N. This system replicates the sensations of a gasoline-powered car, complete with simulated engine sounds, gear shifts, and torque interruptions, controlled via steering-wheel paddle shifters. The EV9 GT also sports bold design elements, including distinctive trim, lime-green interior accents, and Alcantara-upholstered sport seats. Standard features include advanced driver assistance systems and a North American Charging Standard port, enabling access to Tesla Superchargers.
