This presentation by Andrea Caputo, Giuseppe Vercelli, and Claudio Giovanni Cortesel from the University of Turin examines the effectiveness of a structured psychological training protocol designed to enhance performance and well being in esports athletes. As competitive esports places high cognitive and emotional demands on players, the study addresses the limited availability of coherent, evidence based psychological training frameworks tailored to this domain. The research evaluates the e S F E R A model, an applied sport psychology framework targeting five mental dimensions: Synchrony, Strength, Energy, Rhythm, and Activation. Using a quasi experimental design, the study involved 97 professional esports athletes recruited from competitive teams and the esports section of the Italian National Amateur League. Participants were assigned to an experimental group receiving a video based psychological training programme or to a control group. Assessments were conducted at multiple time points using validated measures of psychological functioning, perceived performance satisfaction, and well being related indicators. The results show significant improvements among participants who received the training. These include gains in key psychological dimensions, increased perceived performance satisfaction, and positive emotional outcomes such as higher engagement and positive affect, alongside reductions in negative affectivity. The findings indicate medium to large effect sizes across several dimensions of performance related psychological functioning. The presentation concludes that the e S F E R A model represents an effective and practical framework for psychological training in esports. While acknowledging limitations related to self report data and study design, the findings support the integration of applied sport psychology approaches into esports coaching and athlete development. The study highlights the potential of structured psychological programmes to enhance mental readiness, resilience, and sustained high level performance, contributing to the professionalisation and long term health of esports athletes. Guided by the theme “Future Realities: Esports as a Global Lab,” the event explored how esports serves as a living laboratory for understanding digital transformation across education, media, technology, and society. This innovative digital-first format followed the sun across three regional hubs, Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania & Michigan State University (Americas), Staffordshire University (EMEA), and UNSW Sydney (Asia-Pacific), creating a nonstop, interconnected academic experience available to participants worldwide. This ambitious production was made possible through the support of Corsair for Business, whose Elgato technology powered high-quality broadcasting and seamless livestreaming across all three hubs. ERNC25 continues the network’s mission to unite scholars, practitioners, and students while fostering open, global collaboration in esports research.
