Canada now has the worst food inflation rate in the G7, with grocery prices rising faster than in every other major industrialized country. Dalhousie University professor Dr. Sylvain Charlebois joins Kris Sims to explain why Canadians shouldn’t expect food prices to come down any time soon, despite repeated Liberal promises to tackle affordability. Charlebois points to the continued impact of federal carbon pricing on industry, including the industrial carbon tax and the federal clean fuel regulations, which raise fuel and energy costs for farmers, food processors, and trucking companies. Those costs, he says, are passed directly on to consumers at the grocery store. He also highlights Ottawa’s failure to improve competition in the grocery sector, arguing that high regulatory barriers and limited market entry have left Canadian consumers with fewer options and higher prices compared to other G7 countries. ——————————————————————————— SUBSCRIBE to Juno News - https://www.junonews.com/subscribe Share us online and spread the word!
