Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn takes place right after the events of Siege of Dragonspear (if you couldn't tell from the cutscenes), and an unknown amount of time, but I'm guessing, like, a month after the events of Baldur's Gate I. Originally coming out in 2000, 2 years after BG1, and enhanced edition coming out in 2013, a year after BG1EE. As the title suggests, the game does not take place in Baldur's Gate, but in Amn, just south of The Sword Coast. Technically part of Amn was in BG1, as Nashkel is the most northern border of Amn. However, Nashkel sits just north of a mountain range (where its mine is), and Shadows of Amn takes place on the other side of the mountains.
