Jonathan Scott performs his solo organ arrangement of the Hornpipe from Water Music (Suite No. 2 in D HWV 349) by Handel at the organ of Middleton Parish Church. The memorial obelisk for our ancestor Samuel Bamford (who led a group from Middleton to, and wrote the eye-witness account of, the Peterloo Massacre 1819) is shown at the end of this video. It was unveiled in Middleton Cemetery in 1877. Its inscription reads: "Bamford was a reformer when to be so was unsafe, and he suffered for his faith." The stained glass window shown in this video is known as "The Flodden Window". It commemorates the names of the Middleton archers who fought at the Battle of Flodden in 1513, and is thought to be the oldest war memorial in the UK.
