The GreenLoop: Geothermal Energy | Andy Van Horn | 2021 WSGS

Andrew J. Van Horn, Ph.D., Director of Applied Research at GreenFire Energy, has over four decades experience analyzing, developing, and implementing competitive electricity, natural gas and emissions markets, regulations and policies, and the advanced technologies needed to reduce emissions and provide clean power. As the founder of Van Horn Consulting, he helped develop the U.S. cap-and-trade market for SO2 that serves as the model for emission trading systems in over 35 countries, California and RGGI, and set the price of the first allowance trade in 1992. He has led national economic and technical studies for EPRI, EPA and DOE, served as an Independent Evaluator of electricity and natural gas contracts for utilities and consumers, and been an expert witness in state and federal proceedings. He is currently working to commercialize GreenFIre’s innovative, carbon-free Closed-Loop Geothermal energy systems for 24/7 resilient electric power generation and industrial processes on three continents. Andy holds a B.S. in Physics from Harvey Mudd College, a Ph.D in Physics from UC Berkeley, followed by post-doctoral research positions in the U.K. and at Harvard University before becoming a consultant.
