PM Modi congratulates BNP’s Tarique Rahman for ‘remarkable victory’ in Bangladesh General Election

PM Modi congratulated BNP leader Tarique Rahman after his grand victory in historic general elections of Bangladesh. PM Modi spoke with Mr. Rahman after the latter’s party conquered the electorates in the fresh elections. “Delighted to speak with Mr. Tarique Rahman…” said PM Modi as he “congratulated him on the remarkable victory”. PM Modi also highlighted “deep-rooted historical & cultural ties” between New Delhi & Dhaka. Bangladesh Nationalist Party secured overwhelming majority at the Centre by winning 212 of total 299 seats. Alliance led by Jamaat-e-Islami secured 77 seats in the Jatiya Sangsad, or House of the Nation. BNP’s leader Tarique Rahman is set to become the Prime Minister after his party returns to power after nearly two decades. At the end of his message, PM Modi “reaffirmed India’s continued commitment to peace, progress, & prosperity of both”.
