English sailors from the British East India Company got to know the drink in India under the Hindustani name "pantsch" (five) and wrote it in English as "punch". They brought the drink to Europe in the 17th century. In 1735, Johann Heinrich Zedler translated the English word punch to "Puntsch" in his Great Complete Universal Lexicon. He listed the ingredients of the "strong drink": brandy, water, sugar, bitter orange juice and nutmeg. Decoration for an early spring on the windowsill Crocuses are geophytes, i.e. plants that develop perennial organs to survive the winter better. The perennial organ in crocuses is a tuber, but is usually referred to colloquially as a crocus bulb. As forced plants in pots, crocuses are ideal as harbingers of spring, bringing spring to the room or balcony.
