This vid is for educational, recreational, scientific, experimental, testing and or research purposes only. All tests were on a shielded dummy load. OK, got it the way I want it. Repositioned the Input SWR trimmer cap so it can be adjusted from the rear. Spread the 10 meter tank coil a tad so the Tune cap will now no longer tune at the minimum setting. That's all I'm going to do to this guy right now. Input SWR is flat at 10 watts drive or less, and up to 1.35 at 12 watts dead key, 40 watts peak swing AM. Everything else is working ok, so why mess with it. Maybe on a later day I might (just might) replace the plate blocking caps with a nice doorknob. When or if a plate blocking cap goes, it can be trouble. As its name says, a plate blocking cap blocks the HV from coming out thru the output side (tank circuit and coax) but only allows RF to pass thru. A Blocking cap in short passes RF and blocks HV. If one shorts, then that 2800HV goes where it doesn't supposed to. Might have to say goodbye to my nice Icom 7300 I am using for a driver if that happens. Anyway, all is well with the amp. 40 watts peak in, I don't know, around 2200? out as it puts the needle in the corner. Not straining either. As Captain America likes to say, "I could do this all day!" I have nothing really bad to say about it. Build quality, check. Peter Dahl Trannie, check Full wave bridge HV, check good pair of 4cx800 tubes, check all modern safety features like soft start, step start, overload protection, etc check stiff power supply, check. vacuum relay on the output side, check. sequenced relay keying, check. About the only things I could nit pic about are: don't like the plate blocking caps not crazy about the Tune and Load cap spacing (or better yet, vacuums would be nice) They do make a 3 hole (tube) version of this amp, the HF-2500 Mark III. I like plate dissipation, so I would rather have the 3 tuber, but people in hell want ice water too, right? Still, all in all, very happy with it. I give it a 9 on a 1-10.
