ABOUT At the closing ceremony of the Winter Olympics she sang magically, but she thinks nothing of doing a little 'vocal acting' for the final episode of the TV show Sex in the City either. Still, her crowning glory has to be the Grammy award she received as the best jazz vocalist in 2000. American jazz diva Dianne Reeves already has eleven CDs to her name. With her most recent project everything revolved around 'The Divine One' Sarah Vaughan, whose work she scrutinized and performed anew on the very well received CD The Calling, Celebrating Sarah Vaughan. Her preference went out to big bands and string orchestras for this Vaughan repertoire, but Reeves would just as soon perform in a smaller setting. Her compilation CD The Best of Dianne Reeves, released in the same year, is an attractive collection of all kinds of flavors, deriving from various albums. Varying from very solid but beautifully executed standards to effervescent Latin work and poppy/R&B colored jazz, over the years Reeves has proven herself to be an all-round talent, with whom one can never guess what her next step will be.
