It was first prepared in the late 19th century (around 1899) in the royal kitchen of Mysuru Palace, during the reign of Maharaja Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV. The palace cook Kakasura Madappa accidentally created this sweet while trying to make a new dessert using besan (gram flour), ghee, and sugar. The mixture turned into a rich, porous sweet. When the Maharaja asked its name, Madappa referred to it simply as “Mysuru Paaka” (paaka = sugar syrup). Over time, it became popular as Mysuru Pak.
