This was a hard read, possibly the hardest to date. I make a few claims here that might be disputed and I welcome them for discussion. I am not afraid to voice my opinion when I think a book is bad, but I don't think that's what happened here. Although, I will say that I thought a LOT of this book was unnecessary and that it could have easily stood at a hundred pages less, if not shorter. I actually recorded a longer version of this review but some things went wrong with it. In it, I bring up the following: 1. Here I mention there is no window into the secret societies. In a way, there is, but barely and with tenuous connection to the crux of the novel. 2. None of the romantic interests seem even remotely convincing. 3. That said, Lia was my favourite character for throwing Casaubon's obsession back in his face. Let me know how this one worked for you!
