Trailer #1 Dene people have long occupied the wild and remote wilderness of northeastern British Columbia. Long before colonization, members of the Fort Nelson First Nation have utilized the vast and abundant river systems to sustain their daily lives. Culturally significant, free flowing water destined for the Arctic provides far more than meets the eye in this unceded territory. Aside from a mode of transportation, the dene people have lived and thrive along these river systems for time immemorial. Every year in the fall, 'The People of the River' seek out its abundance, hunting and gathering to provide and sustain themselves through the winter. Moose, Elk, Caribou, Grizzly Bear, and a plethora of other wild animals are found here. Remarkable wilderness. Dene Land is a look into the significance of water and river as it relates to the people of the Fort Nelson First Nation. From the thrill of the hunt, to the total utilization of a moose, and all that relates to its importance to the future generations of this sacred territory, bare witness to what is important to this resilient and intuitive nation of dene people.
