All: We come longing to be claimed and called. One: When Jesus was baptized in the Jordan, the Spirit descended and a voice declared love. All: Here and now, God still speaks: “You are my beloved.” One: Come now, to worship the One baptized like us. All: We come to worship the God who calls us beloved. HYMN: Here in This Place CALL TO CONFESSION: In the waters of baptism, we are called and claimed as God’s children. Yet we know we often forget who we are and go astray. So therefore, we confess together: PRAYER OF CONFESSION: Gracious God, we confess that we forget our baptism. We forget that we are named by love before we prove anything. We forget that grace comes before effort, belonging before believing, and mercy before obedience. We confess that we chase approval, hide our wounds, and resist the waters that might change us. We confess that we would rather stand on the shore than step into the river with You. Forgive us, O God. Wash us again in Your mercy. Remind us who we are: Your beloved children, in whom You delight. Amen. SILENT CONFESSION ASSURANCE OF PARDON: Hear the good news! The voice that called Jesus beloved in the waters of the Jordan speaks the same words to us. You are my beloved and in you I am well pleased. In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. In the waters of baptism, we are made new. Thanks be to God. Amen. PASSING OF THE PEACE One: The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. All: And also with you. GLORY TO GOD TIME WITH CHILDREN CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE: We Are Marching in the Light of God SPECIAL MUSIC: Open My Eyes, Brian Burnett, vocalist PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION SCRIPTURE LESSON: Matthew 3:13-17 MESSAGE: New Year, New Me by The Rev. Anders Edstrom SILENT REFLECTION HYMN: Down to the River to Pray REAFFIRMATION OF BAPTISM One: Trusting in the gracious mercy of God, do you turn from the ways of sin and renounce evil and its power in the world? All: I do. One: Who is your Lord and Savior? All: Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior. One: Will you be Christ’s faithful disciple obeying his word and showing his love? All: I will, with God’s help. One: The Lord be with you. All: And also with you. One: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. All: It is right to give our thanks and praise. One: With the whole church, let us confess our faith. Do you believe in God, the Father almighty? All: I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. One: Do you believe in Jesus Christ? All: I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. One: Do you believe in the Holy Spirit? All: I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. PRAYER CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE: You Belong to Christ PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE THE LORD’S PRAYER: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen. ANNOUNCEMENTS INVITATION TO THE OFFERING OFFERTORY: Come to the Water, arr.
