On April 18, two police officers were called to an AMVETS post regarding a 53-year-old man named Frank Tyson on Sherrick Road Southeast in Canton, Ohio. According to police reports, Tyson had crashed his car and then took off on foot. When the officers located Tyson and attempted to detain him, he reportedly fought back and resisted arrest. Shortly after, he became unresponsive and was declared dead at a nearby hospital. The police department quickly reached out to the Ohio Attorney General's Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) to look into the matter. During the investigation, body camera footage from officers Camden Burch and Beau Schoenegge showed that Tyson died while in police custody. The video captured Tyson expressing difficulty breathing as the officers were putting handcuffs on him. It also appeared that one officer placed his knee on Tyson's neck for a brief moment.
