I hope that it can reach your soul and help you find rest in whatever you are facing right now in your life. Merry Christmas, and enjoy this lullaby:) This song was born while I was serving as a missionary in Kentucky. Some nights were filled with strumming on the ukulele and humming a vague tune, which eventually developed words, which eventually formed into a sweet little lullaby that I feel became a saving grace for me during the hard times. After returning home from my mission, I hadn’t touched my ukulele in months, and this song sort of faded away from my memory. However, November rolled around and I was suddenly hit with troubles and trials I didn’t see coming. I got out my dusty little ukulele one night and began to play what had become a forgotten song. In this moment, it was quite literally a lullaby for my troubled heart, and I found peace in the music and message that it carried. Immediately, I reached out to Halfy and suggested we whip this out for Christmas this year. She agreed, and we both worked together to create this soft, delicate piece. The song tells a story of three lullabies. The first being the night Christ was born, where a glowing lantern revealed the small baby sleeping, and a worn and tired mother singing her sweet lullaby to her baby boy. Angels sang joyously and praised the beloved Prince of Peace. This tiny little baby would be the Savior of the world. The second lullaby refers to many years later, the last night of Jesus’ life, where he walked to the Garden of Gethsemane with his disciples. He departed into the trees completely alone, and there he suffered the most excruciating pain that even the Son of God could hardly bear. In this moment, Jesus took it all upon his shoulders. Wounded hearts, agonizing tears, mistakes, sins, sicknesses, anger, regrets, loneliness, confusion, doubts, depression, anxieties, mourning, and every other possible unfair thing that this world has to offer. He felt it. He felt it so fully, that He bled from every pore in His body. The lyrics go on to explain how this precious blood dripped down onto flowers that bloomed from the garden. I like to imagine that, in contrast to the excruciating pain He felt, there too was beauty in the suffering, in the place, in the setting. Because, in that very moment, all of these horrible things were “overcome by (His) love”. Think about that. Fast forward some 2,000 years, and here we are in a world that feels as though there will never be any rest. The third verse is a simple reference to turning to the one thing that can offer inner peace amidst tribulation. Because of His lullaby, we can “break through the stones ‘til (we) find (our) way home”. He want us to come back home. The Lord really does hear our every cry. He is the only one who knows our circumstances, our struggles, and our pains, personally. He is the only one who knows how to heal us. Let Him be your lullaby.
