Although 2025 Growing season rainfall was low (only 140-160mm from Apr-Oct) the mild finish enabled crops to access deep stored moisture in the profile. April rain (the Autumn break) was only between 3-10mm which for parts of the farm meant crop was sown dry whilst other parts had sufficient to establish seedlings. There were only a few significant rain events through the growing season, 24th May 20-25mm, 26th June 20mm, 28th July 20mm and the only Spring rain on 11th September 32mm. It was evident from our moisture probe that the crops were still accessing deep stored moisture from the floods of 2022 which meant their roots were pumping from deeper than 1m below the surface.
