Such a cleaning, I decided to give a polishing tip on a Dremel a try for the frets. Unfortunately, the rumors on the internet that doing this can shave away fret material appear to have been correct. Very possible I just did it wrong, but the results weren't THAT much better than a hand polish anyway. I don't think I would suggest this method at this time or maybe I just had the wrong attachment - also possible the frets weren't great from the seller as I never tested the guitar until I had fresh strings.
