Trump won't meet with Jacob Blake's family, suggests Kenosha shooting suspect “could've been killed”

U.S. President Donald Trump said Monday, Aug. 31, that the fatal shootings of two protesters and wounding of a third in Kenosha, Wis., was under investigation, describing it as an “interesting situation.” The president also appeared to defend the alleged shooter, 17-year-old Kyle Rittenhouse, when he said he “was in a very bad situation,” being violently attacked by protesters and “could have been killed.” Trump told a reporter that he had given no consideration to a request by Mayor John Antaramian of Kenosha, Wis., not to visit the city over concerns it could “agitate things.” Trump suggested his visit could “increase enthusiasm” and increase “love and respect for our country." He also said he would not visit with the family of Jacob Blake Tuesday as the family had wanted to include lawyers, according to Trump. Trump said he felt that was “inappropriate.” Blake, a 29-year-old Black man, was shot seven times in the back by a police officer a week ago Sunday, when members of the city's police department responded to a domestic dispute call.
