2015 SIERRA MALBEC Fair Play AVA, Whispers Hill Vineyard Harvested 9/1/2015 Brix: 26.25, pH: 3.69, TA: .52 Malbec Clone 9 on 101114 Rootstock Organically Farmed*** Grown at over 2200 feet elevation these vines experience an altitude and continental climate similar to those of Mendoza. At this elevation hot days and cold nights allow the grapes to ripen whilst still preserving acidity. The soils are quite different between the two areas. In Mendoza exists primarily alluvial sand deposited from Andes runoff water while Fairplay is well known for it’s deeper Shaver series sandy loam featuring large amounts of decomposed granite from the bedrock below and ranging in depth from 5-10 feet. The vineyard is not certified, but it has been farmed organically for the past three years.
