Touchdown: 38:46 The JARDesign’s Airbus A330 (here Air Serbia) is programmed to follow a path from takeoff to touchdown around Belgrade Airport. It is supposed to autoland but many obstacles —a 20,000 feet high thunderstorm and a 18 kn crosswind near the runway— will prevent it to fly and to land smoothly. Autopilot is activated just before Top of Climb and I will (try to) fly through a major thundestorm until touchdown. Each time the Autopilot is deactivated it's because the turbulences shake the plane and move it away from the planned trajectory. Will the Autopilot be able to keep the plane on its path? Will the programmed Approach Phase allow to land the plane safely? I never disable Autopilot manually but once it happens I try to stabilise the plane manually and put it back on track. At touchdown, I leave Autopilot and Autothrust to the ON position on purpose just to see how the plane will react. But once reverse thrust is activated, I must disable the two Autos to slow down the plane. DISCLAIMER: – Please note that this is just a technical test. – For the sake of the demo and as it is a raw unedited video, some steps have been skipped and some have not been executed in the required order. – All steps explaining how to program and fly the plane are made with the X-Plane simulator v11 and JARDesign group’s Airbus A330 v2.2, and thus are intended only for that environment. Don't apply these steps in a real plane… should you enter in the cockpit of an A330 ;-) – The reactions of the plane in the storms are only the results of how the plane has been programmed by the JARDesign Group and thus they don't reflect necessarily the reality.
