Solid snare shell, Steam Bent Drums, Unix Drums. Interview with Francois Filiatrault. Guys! I visited Unix Drums and had the opportunity to interview Francois Filiatrault, Founder/Owner at Unix Drums. What a treat! First off.. What a great guy! I can totally say that this guy is so passionate about his work. I have learned about the art of Steam bent drums at Unix Drums and it is definitely an art... an art of passion and most of all patience! I have never heard of steam bent drums. Call me crazy! hehe. Steam bending wood is such a tedious task for sure. All the equipment used and very personal and smart techniques involved for sure! Francois uses an array of different types of wood, from our Canadian Maple to all sorts of exotic woods for his beautifully crafted Canadian Drums. I think that drum making is one of the coolest jobs... aside from playing them of course! hehe. By the way.. For those who don't know, Steam bent Drums are simply steam bent solid drum shells.. That is one ply! One piece of wood! All the drums are solid. Solid snare drum, toms floor and bass. Oh.. and yes.. Of course he makes Stave drums also :) Ok.. so enough of my rambling!
