3D animation of the larynx created in Blender based on the paper "Three-Dimensional Analysis of Cricoarytenoid Joint Motion" by Dr. Robert C. Wang. The animation focuses on the movement of the cricoarytenoid joint and is the first time this complex process has been represented in motion. Specifically, the animation specifically shows the relationship between the arytenoid joint facet and the cricoid joint facet as the arytenoid moves over the cricoid cartilage during the processes of adduction and abduction. In order to clearly display the movement of the arytenoid cartilage along the cricoid cartilage, only the cricoid cartilage, cricoid joint facet, right arytenoid cartilage, cricoarytenoid ligament, right posterior capsular ligament, right anterior capsular ligament, and the right vocalis ligament are represented in the animation. The cricoid cartilage and the arytenoid cartilage were colored tan, the ligaments were colored grey, the arytenoid joint facet was colored red, the posterior component of the cricoid joint facet was colored green, and the anterior component of the cricoid joint facet was colored red. The animation is meant to serve as an educational tool to help medical students and professionals better understand the complicated and oft-overlooked mechanics of vocal cord joint movement.
