It had taken almost three years for Tembe Elephant Park to source disease-free lions that were genetically distinct from the resident lions. So in 2019, The Bateleurs along with an EKZNW Veterinarian transported the lions from Addo Elephant Park in the Eastern Cape to Tembe Elephant Park in Northern Cape. As you can see this is not such a quick and easy task and a lot goes into translocating lions. One of the most important things is how much sedative is given to the lions. Too much and they will die, too little and the pilot will.
