Today is a very special day because it is Illia’s birthday. Early in the morning Angelina and little Dominika warmly поздравляють him with hugs, smiles and heartfelt gifts. Angelina begins preparing a homemade birthday cake, carefully decorating it while Dominika happily helps her in the kitchen. Meanwhile Illia works outside, crafting a beautiful wooden flower box, sanding every piece of wood with care. Because it is the fasting season in the Carpathians, Angelina prepares many delicious traditional lean dishes — fried mushrooms, fish, cabbage salads, stuffed cabbage rolls, pizza and other homemade meals. Later the family goes on a tractor trip to bring firewood, continuing their simple mountain life tasks before the celebration. By evening the large festive table is ready. Soon the whole family arrives — grandparents, Angelina’s sister with her children, and her brother Vasyl with his family. Everyone brings warm wishes and birthday gifts. Together they laugh, share food and celebrate Illia’s 24th birthday in the cozy atmosphere of a Carpathian village home. Finally Illia blows out the candles on his cake while the whole family cheers and smiles.
