Hamilton Ontario was one of the first places in North America to have running water and infrastructure. The city is an industrial hub for manufacturing, shipping, and steel production. This pumphouse was one of the first of its kind and pumps fresh water directly from the Great Lakes. The old waterworks was converted into the Hamilton Steam and Technology Museum. We get a guided tour of the facilities boiler room and engine room learning about the history and evolution of steam technology. There is a fusion of architecture styles in the building, including Victorian, Roman, and Italianate. It was designed by the same scottish engineers who worked on the Goderich underground salt mine and the oilsprings/petrolia oilfields.
