The Century Tsukiji of Century Park Hotel Manila Japanese cuisines are a feast for the eyes and also for the palate. Good food presentation is an integral part of Japanese food preparation. Proper color combinations are used in the arrangement and presentation of dishes which treat each plate like a canvas that excites the taste buds to crave more. Hello, fellow FOOD TRIPPERS! Please join us on this FOOD TRIP to enjoy a taste of Japan at The Century Tsukiji of The Century Park Hotel Manila, a Japanese feast meticulously curated and enticingly prepared for their lunch and dinner buffets. Japan as an island gave the Japanese people access to fresh fish and other sea resources. It gave way to their unsurpassed knowledge of how to prepare the fruits of the sea and eat them raw. The Japanese buffet is never complete without some delicate slivers of the delectable fresh sashimi of salmon, tuna, red snapper, octopus, and sea urchin eaten raw with soy sauce and wasabi. Traditional Japanese sushi making is fish-based though nowadays, the range of possible ingredients for sushi is vast, limited by what is fresh and available and by the professional sushi chef’s creative imagination. The lovely Sushi Station has an array of colorful and artistically designed sushi, from savory to spicy, presented in wooden sushi boat centerpieces and platters. It is a fun experience to witness professional chefs cooking delicious dishes in the open kitchen. The chefs are all busy, cooking with unlimited orders of deep-fried battered tempura, sizzling-grilled salmon, chicken fillet, beef cubes, and fresh scallops. Nothing can compare to a platter of these tasty tidbits hot off the grill as most guests lined up to get their second serving. The wonderful aroma of grilled food is always a crowd-pleaser. Some purists say that without the smokey smell, it isn't barbecue. Smoking certainly infuses unbeatable flavor into whatever is cooked. Skewered bite-size pieces of bacon-wrapped quail eggs, crabsticks, enoki mushrooms, beef cubes, pork belly, and shrimp are among the grill station's best-seller that pleased our taste buds. Other hot dishes that tantalize our taste buds are Tori Teba Yaki (Salted Grilled Chicken Wings), Buta Kakuni (Braised Pork Belly), Salmon Fillet Teppanyaki, Yasai Itame (Stir-Fry Vegetables), Salmon Kabutoni (Steamed Salmon Head with Soy Sauce), Sukiyaki (Beef in Sweet Soy Sauce) and Yakisoba (Stir-Fry Noodle) served with mixed fried rice. Perfect for any time of the day, soups make hearty-filling meals. At the “Make Your Ramen Station,” diners can make their bowls of ramen noodles by choosing mushrooms, boiled eggs, chicken, chasu pork, and other garnishes. Garnishes and spicy condiments add the extra flavors and textures that lift the dish out of the ordinary. A choice of three flavourful broths of Seafood, Tonkotsu, and Cheese served bubbling in earthenware pots make the ramen noodle soup deeply satisfying. In Japan, sweets were once a luxury only served on special occasions or tea ceremonies. A hot pot of refreshing green tea has been the best accompaniment to these amazingly-popular desserts of Tiramisu, Red Velvet Cake, Opera Cake, and Hokkaido Cheesecake, with some servings of Coffee Jelly keep our java craving soaring. The chefs at Century Tsukiji may have mastered their culinary art even in making Japanese ice cream in five different flavors. These specialty frozen delights of Red Bean, Avocado, Matcha, Sesame, and Wasabi are delivered personally to our table. The wasabi-flavored ice cream may sound strange, but a spicy hint makes it more delectable, which brings oohs and aahs of delight. We all asked for our seconds after having downed our delicious share. The hot freshly-made banana crepe is never complete without the cold delicious contrast of the classic chocolate ice cream or the strawberry ice cream melting on top. All flavors of this classic favorite can be enjoyed on its own. These gone-in-a-minute treats capped our delightful meals. Much to my husband's surprise, he was serenaded with a birthday song and gifted with a birthday cake, making his day special. The sweet and thoughtful gestures of Century Tsukiji's management and staff satisfy our palates and hearts. "Doumo Arigatou Gozaimasu", Thank you very much. Shun wa kusuri ni masaru is an old saying that means “to eat in season is better than medicine,” a belief held dear by many Japanese. No wonder Century Tsukiji always ensures the freshness of its ingredients by using seasonal produce at its peak of flavor. Century Tsukiji became a favorite of diners who knew good Japanese food frequented the restaurant. Besides the excellent foods we savored, the warm and attentive chefs, receptionists, and waitstaff added a level of nurturing with their best gracious service, making us feel special and at home as we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The Century Park Hotel Manila is our family's "home away from home." ,
