Hang Track Shelving Installation Begginer Friendly. How to install hang track shelves is an easy DIY. Whether it’s the Closetmaid Shelftrack, Everbuilt Hang track or Rubbermaid Fasttrack, installing these hang track shelving systems in a very similar. For my project I used the Everbuilt Hangtrack Shelving System. Honestly, half of my garage shelves are Closetmaid Shelftrack and the other half is Hang track and I can’t really tell the difference. Both of these garage shelving systems have four main components, a top track or rail, hang rails or standards, shelf brackets and wire shelving. Wire shelving systems like these also have many accessories that can be added. Shelftrack and Hang Track shelves are both expandable and adjustable. The wire shelf brackets can be moved up or down as needed and more shelving can be added at any time. Installation of a hang track shelving system is very simple. The top track is first leveled and attached horizontally to the wall using screws to attach it directly to the wall studs. Next, the hang rails or standards are attached vertically over top of the studs. I used 2 1/2” screws to be sure that at least one inch of screw went into the studs. Shelf brackets are then attached to the slots of the hang rails to allow for the wire shelving to span across them.
