'shuffling the cards', by Nicholas Hooper ------------ thinking of what may be in your hands those unknown futures that radiate from time a flow one way, a climb another what next? you ask what next in this topsy turvy life as I shuffle the cards without knowing what will fall on the table? a voice comes into your head ‘maybe,’ it says, ‘maybe the path will be clear without the unexpected’ but we know that those cards can change even as we think we own our lives and that signposts may point to a new horizon so deftly, as your hands steady in their deal expect not the obvious but hope for the new that creation that comes from nowhere already known and let go of those false hopes that the cards will cheat in the game of life but bring instead the fulfilment of true flow ------------------------------------------------------------ For more in this collection, visit: https://wordandnote.com/dawnings/ ------------------------------------------------------------ About 'shuffling the cards’: 'shuffling the cards’ is part of Nicholas Hooper's collection of Dawnings — an innovative way to couple word and music. “Every morning at around 5am I get up and go down to my studio. After a short meditation I write down whatever is in my head, giving myself fifteen minutes to do so. Then moving over to the piano (or a more portable instrument like my Ukulele when I'm away), I improvise and record a piece of music inspired by whatever words I just wrote. It is a great way of keeping both my writing and my composing going and I call these small creations Dawnings. They are mostly unedited, like sketches, so that they keep that fresh feeling of an early morning discovery.” ------------ About Nicholas Hooper: Nicholas (Nick) Hooper is a composer, musician and author, best known for his two original scores for the Harry Potter film series.
