Mexican Waltz "O'er The Waves" (Sobre las Olas) Performed by Western Swing Band, Rollfast Ramblers

​Howdy Y’all! Here’s a tune that features our fiddle player Elijah Stone on a tune called “Over the Waves”. This tune actually dates back to 1888 and is originally called “Sobre las Olas”. People often confuse this waltz coming from European countries, but this waltz was composed by Mexican composer Juventino Rosas. There is belief that the “waves” he is speaking of is not the waves of the ocean, but of a river. Juventino Rosas started his career as a street musician and played in dance bands in Mexico City before going into a conservatory for a short stint. Juventino Rosas was also a violinist.
