Join me for this 4K virtual run heading west on a mountainous desert trail on the south side of Gran Canaria island, the largest of the Canary Islands of Spain, just off the coast of Northern Africa! Normally, incredibly blue skies dominate the views on the Canary Islands but occasionally strong winds sweep across from the Sahara Desert in Africa, blowing tons of desert sands into the sky hundreds of miles across the ocean. This phenomenon is called The Calima. It clouds and darkens the air above the usually pristine waters and beaches of Gran Canaria and the other islands. Sometimes the winds and sand even reach across the Atlantic ocean as far as South America!
