Breast augmentation, often called a “breast aug” or “boob job,” is a surgical procedure using breast implants to increase the size of your breasts. Breast augmentation can also help restore breast volume lost after pregnancy, weight loss, and to lessen the appearance of breast asymmetry. The technical term for breast augmentation is augmentation mammoplasty. A silicone gel implant or saline filled implant is used to add volume to the breast. Silicone implants are also called "gummy implants." Less commonly, fat from another part of the body can be used to add volume to the breasts. This procedure, called fat transfer breast augmentation, is more limited in the amount of volume that can be added. There are many types of breast implants available. The basic two types are those filled with saline (salt water, IV fluid) and those filled with silicone gel (e.g. “gummy bear implants”). And there are many varieties of each of these. Jeffrey Thaxton a board-certified plastic surgeon thank you for watching I'm going to discuss implant sizing with you first of all implants don't come in specific cup sizes they don't come and see cup or D cup or double D cup but they come in specific volumes and then when added to the amount of breast tissue or a present will arrive at a cup size specific for that patient so implants come in volumes measured in CCS for instance this is a 250 CC implant and this is a 500 CC implant near those correlate to any specific cup size in and of themselves but when added to the amount of breast tissue present we'll create a cup size specific for that patient so when someone comes in to me and wants to discuss breast augmentation it is a lengthy discussion sometimes up to an hour to determine exactly what they're wanting to achieve what their goals are with breast augmentation when someone comes in they may say I want to be a C cup but I truly want to understand what they mean by a C cup and what that means to them so I will spend a considerable amount of time I will take some measurements and then through years of experience and some artistic understanding of truly what their goals are we arrive at what implant will meet their specific goals and help them achieve what they're wanting to achieve with breast augmentation so if you have any questions about breast augmentation and want to discuss it further please don't hesitate to call and I will be happy to discuss your goals for breast augmentation thank you for watching
