Israel's Oron reconnaissance aircraft is currently undergoing trials after successfully developing its newest model since 2021. This aircraft is claimed to have advanced technology with wider reconnaissance capabilities. The Oron aircraft is the result of a special collaboration between the Ministry of Defense through its research and development agency, the Elta subsidiary of Israel Aerospace Industries, the Israeli Air Force, the Intelligence Corps, and the Navy. The following is a review of the specifications of Israel's Oron reconnaissance aircraft. Specifications of the Israeli Oron Reconnaissance Aircraft According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the Oron aircraft equipped with C4I sensors and systems will provide unprecedented intelligence capabilities in a wide range of environments. Oron is a combined multi-domain, multi-sensor solution that will provide the IDF with breakthrough capabilities in confronting threats at long and short distances. In fact, Oron is a reconnaissance aircraft variant based on the Gulfstream G550 Aerospace. The reconnaissance aircraft is equipped with a number of sensors and data collection devices that enable it to efficiently detect targets in various weather conditions. Oron has the ability to increase its operational excellence at the second and third levels. The second tier refers to countries that do not share a direct border with Israel, but are considered a direct threat to the country, such as Iraq and Yemen. Meanwhile, the third level refers to enemy countries located further away, especially Iran. Oron has been equipped with advanced sensors, including advanced radar systems, and artificial intelligence (AI) technology. Utilization of AI technology will enable the use of efficient and automated data processing systems. This will result in directly accessible intelligence information, effectively improving the implementation of operational activities by the IDF. Oron was first announced in April 2021. This aircraft is also known as MARS2 or Multi-Mission Airborne Reconnaissance and Surveillance System by Elta.
