Finally, reached Ganja, the city of the Nezami Ganjavi, poet from the 12th century. After finding a place to park, we strolled around the city especially near the Şah Abbas Mosque also known as Juma Mosque of Ganja which was built around 1605. The city was rather empty despite the good weather. We met some locals around the mosque, one was a fan of a Çalıkuşu - an earlier TV Turkish series from the 80s. He was asking about Aydan Şener, the female artist who was playing one of the main characters in the series. You could see the happiness in his eyes as he remembered those days, it was a charm to see and meet him that day. Then, came the angry uncle and started bashing us for not being Turkish enough and questioning our visual appearance. Luckily it didn't take long but made us feel bad enough that we started to think of leaving the city and head to Sheki right away. Also not being able to find a good place to eat authentic Azeri food increased the disappointment about the city and then finally we settled down to eat Turkish Doner in a mall in Ganja and then hit the road to Sheki.
