Break My Heart Again - Finneas Sarah Bodman Studio: https://sarahbodman.com Sarah Bodman Studio Instagram: / sarahbodmanstudio I really wanted to challenge myself and I was recently into Billie Eilish and Finneas’ music. I wanted to learn a piano song that had the constant triplet of notes to do the whole time. Break My Heart Again is very easy on the left hand, so I thought it might be a good first song to learn of that pattern. Overall, for about 6 months of playing piano, I am very proud of this one. I feel that I am pretty consistent on my triplet pattern (even though they aren’t real triplets, just a bunch of eighth notes). It could use some perfecting, but I like how I have it now. I had to train my right forearm to be able to withstand the strain of playing and practicing this song over and over. That repeating and unrelenting pattern on the right hand actually requires your arm to do some gains haha. It took me about an entire month to be able to learn and play this song. And then about another week just trying to perfect the parts I sucked at. I assume this is because I tried to learn a song above my level. I think songs of this nature in the future should not be overly challenging since I am used to it now. One thing that really tripped me up was the last main section at 2:45. For this song, I am always playing notes on my right hand from my thumb to my pinky. So left to right. But here we have to switch it up and play the notes from pinky to thumb. Apparently, that was too much for my brain to handle and I had to spend a good amount of time being able to easily switch from left-right to right-left. For the final outro of the song, I was so surprised of myself that I got such a good take, that I think my brain started to shut down. Hence, the last set of notes are much slower than the rest because I was desperately trying to remember what the next notes were. I don’t know how professional musicians pull this stuff off live. Props to them. This song and Dearly Beloved are both my father’s favorite songs that I know how to play. So my family is pretty receptive of hearing me practice this one. Lol So yeah. This song is one of the hardest I learned so far, but in the end I’m glad I learned it. For the background video, I tried recreating the aesthetics of Finneas’ original music video. I hope it’s not too distracting. I don’t have a camera stabilizer, so I apologize for the shaky portions. Piano Arrangement By: HDPIANO https://www.musicnotes.com/sheetmusic... Synthesia/SeeMusic: In my personal opinion, probably one of the worst ways to learn how to play piano. You will hinder your progress in learning sheet music. Synthesia/SeeMusic will not help you understand rhythm, dynamics, or notation of a musical piece. Learn through sheet music or by ear. Those are better options in my opinion. I only use Synthesia/SeeMusic to create the piano roll visual, and it does a good job there. Audio: Digitally Recorded using Midi File DAW: Ableton Live Camera: iPhone 8 Started Playing Piano sometime around May 2020. Mostly Self-Taught. Using Ableton, I do minor corrections to the Midi file of my performance. For example, if I hit a wrong note or two in my performance I use Ableton to fix it. If I was supposed to hit a G but instead played A, I will use Ableton to change the note to a G. I make sure my performance is about 97% of the way there and then fix it in Ableton. I do it only because some songs are challenging for my skill level and I once tried to do about 27 perfect takes for a song and still did not get it 100% perfect. Additionally, sometimes the audio transfer from my piano to Ableton may glitch or be overly sensitive, and I will fix that as well.
