As Beijing gears up to host the 20th Congress of the ruling Chinese Communist Party (CCP), analysts say that one thing that is sure about this year’s CCP Congress is that there will be no change in the leadership. Instead, Chinese watchers expect an endorsement of Xi Jinping’s rule as the Chinese president is expected to secure an unprecedented third term. The current Congress completes its five-year term. More than 2000 members of the party Congress would take part in the selection of new blood for the party’s Central Committee. The Central Committee has over 200 full time members and about 170 alternate members. Together, these 350 members will decide the future leaders of China. Some of the Central Committee members will be promoted to the Politburo. There will also be addition of new members into CCP’s most-powerful organ, Politburo Standing Committee (PSC).
