Video date: 29 Nov 2023 Lake Tekapo is about three hours drive south-west of Christchurch in the Mackenzie Basin. The township faces north across the remarkable turquoise coloured lake to the mountainous drama of the Southern Alps. Lake Tekapo gets its intense milky-turquoise colour from the fine rock-flour (ground by glaciers) which is suspended in the water. Lupin flowers in Lake Tekapo are one of the prettiest and most sought after times of the year to visit The Mackenzie Country. In fact some of the most seen images of New Zealand often include landscapes with immense varieties of deep purples, pinks, yellows and soft violets across snow covered peaks and emerald blue lakes. Lupin flowers are in full bloom in The Mackenzie Country’s mid spring to early summer in the month from November to early December in the Southern Hemisphere. However, Lupins are not native to New Zealand – in fact, they're classified as an invasive species. Lupins are largely removed since last year by local government in Lake Tekapo area to restore the natural landscape, but there's no denying that they are beautiful and make for a great photo backdrop. Hence why people seek them out each and every year. Click to Subscribe: / @newzealandwalker #laketekapo #lupins #newzealand Click to Subscribe: / @newzealandwalker
