Film of the Greenock Gospel Male Voice Choir extracted from my dads "home movies", 8mm cine film, which spanned from the 1950s to 1970s. I had his films scanned and digitised and I have edited them to produce two videos of the choir. I don't have film of an actual performance by the choir it's mostly a record of choir members and their families who travelled with the choir when they were invited to sing at various venues from Buckie to Belfast (Video 1) Largs to Wales and also a choir family summer picnic and annual dinner, both in Ayrshire (Video 2). The Music: the 8mm cine film does not record sound but in the 1940s the choir recorded and produced at least one record ( a 78 rpm record made of Shellac with 4 songs, two on each side) which Alistair Dunsmore has in his possession and Alistair very kindly digitised the four tracks from the record and sent for me to use. I am not aware of when the choir was officially formed or when it stopped performing as a choir but certainly from early 1940's until the 1980s or later. The choir was made up of members mostly from Greenock churches and was based in George Square Baptist Church in Greenock where my dad was a member from about 16 yrs old, he was in the choir from 14yrs of age as seen in the photo at the end of Video 1 dated 1945. The long term choir conductor was Albert Peterson who was organist at Mount Zion Church in Quarriers Village, Bridge of Weir and I think Bob Morrison and others including my dad also conducted at various times. I hope that the families and others who knew them enjoy seeing the choir members captured on film here. *Any dates mentioned in the videos are as close as I can guesstimate from my research. (I appear in Video 1 at the age of 3 in Belfast from 3 min 27 secs) Robert M Wilson May 2023.
