#papanasam #papanasamtemple #sivan music credit :https://www.bensound.com/ Papanasam Temple : Tirunelveli District of Tamilnadu, is this temple for the SUN GOD, Suriyan of Navagrahas. The Shiva , the presiding deity is worshiped as Papanasanathar and His consort as Ulagammai. This is the first of the Navagragha / Navakailasa Temples of Tirunelveli Dt. Shiva is here also known as Mukkalanathar, since the Lingam of this temple is said to have appeared from a Kala tree. The legend is that Lord Shiva and His consort came here in the Kalyana kolam ( Marriage robes) to give dharshan to the sage Agastiya . The adjacent waterfalls is known as Agastiar Falls , is the origin of the Tamira Bharani river. The temple amidst the hills , is a fairly big one attracting devotees from all over Tamilnadu. Brahmotsva festival, Sivarathri and Tirukalyanam are the important festivals. There is fee to enter into this temple and it is one on the well maintained temples. The temple timings generally are from 5.30 am - 12 pm and from. 4.30-7:30 pm. Papanasam temple is constructed near the banks of thamirabharani river. The temple is part of the 1st nava kailaya temple and has imminent place in the Sivan temples. Pallaiari and palliyellu poojai's are very special here. The kovil padi thari also has been good place to take bath before entering the temple. The temple has good parking facilites and there is a bus stop dedicated to it so public transport wont be an issue. It is a given that the Kuttralam falls supercede the agasthiyar falls but honestly, the lack of crowd and mental peace this place gives you is unparalleled. You can find your family or yourself being the only ones present there most times, off season. Overall it was a very therapeutic experience as a family. The water, not so strong, hitting the head and shoulders gave a sense of comfort and I could feel my pain being sucked out by the herbal water. Would highly recommend. The falls is surrrounded by lush green forest and the whole place looks magical. The waterfalls is quite good with a wall dividing the men and women bathing area. Water is heavenly with lots of herbs. The force of the water is surpringly heavy though the height is around 25 ft only. The surpring thing is that all animals roam here after 5:00 p.m. so we have to leave by 4:30 p.m. In all the whole experience left me thrilled. Nellaiappar : Its one of the largest and excellent architectural temple in south india. The temple is very huge and sure you will be in walk for approx 2-5 kms to complete the seeing whole temple and especially temple management and TN HRCE dept maintaining temple in good manner and very neat and clean even though temple is very big. The temple complex consist of two huge temples, one for Lord Shiva (Nellaiappar temple) and the other for his consort Parvathi (Kanthimathi Ammai temple). . These two temples are linked by a big terraced hall namely Sangili Mandapam that has life sized sculptures adoring the pillars. The main deity of Kanthimathi Nellaiyappar Temple is a 'Suyambu Lingam' or a Shiva Lingam which erupted from underneath the earth. Iruttukkadai Halwa : Excellent Wheat Halwa. A sweet made entirely in Ghee (Clarified Butter) and water from river Thamirabharani. Amazingly, the Halwa stays good even if used after a month of opening a package (keeping it in fridge and heating it on pan). It is native speciality and a typical gift from Tirunelveli. It's nearly a century old shop, past three generations now, in a simple establishment that opens at 5 PM on weekdays (closed on Sundays) and closes when the day's stock is finished, usually in 2-3 hours. There are many imitations that mimic the name Iruttukkadai or Tirunelveli Halwa or Santhi Sweets. None is an equivalent as others save ghee (adding oil) or do not make it fresh every day. The shop used to have only a fluorescent bulb for light in early days (even now only lit basically to conduct business) and hence the name "Iruttukkadai".
