Your Medication Ciprofloxacin & Dexamethasone Ciprofloxacin with dexamethasone is also known as the brand names: Ciprodex. Ciprofloxacin with dexamethasone is used to treat middle and outer ear infections. It comes as an otic suspension, and you can place 4 drops into affected ears twice daily for 7 days. Some less common side effects of ciprofloxacin with dexamethasone are itching in the ear and ear pain. Some rare side effects are crying, dizziness, ear redness, ear residue, irritability, and tingling of the ears. Do not take ciprofloxacin with dexamethasone if: • You have a viral infection of the external ear canal including herpes simplex infection • You have a fungal ear infection While taking ciprofloxacin with dexamethasone, it is important to remember to tell your doctor or pharmacist if: • You experience severe ear irritation, dizziness, increased heart rate, or abnormal heartbeat • You experience signs of an allergic reaction (wheezing, chest tightness, fever, itching, bad cough, blue skin color, etc.) • You start taking any new medication, vitamins or supplements • Your condition does not improve or you develop new or worsening symptoms It is important to take this medication until the fully prescribed amount is finished, even if symptoms disappear.
