Discover the unique architectural design of U House, located in the serene residential area of Chiba Prefecture, just on the outskirts of Tokyo. This remarkable home, designed by KIAS, stands out with its three distinct volumes: an asymmetrical house and two concrete boxes. The galvanized steel-clad timber structure sits atop an extended concrete foundation that seamlessly rises from the ground, blending modern aesthetics with nature. The innovative roof design sways away from the neighboring buildings, allowing ample daylight to flood the narrow garden below. Inside, the asymmetrical form of the house creates a double-height living and dining space, echoing the charm of traditional Japanese homes. The ground floor hosts a study room, kitchen, and guest shower, all seamlessly connected to the spacious living area. The master bedroom on the ground floor opens up to a private garden, with low windows designed for a tranquil view from a seating height. The entrance hall serves as a welcoming guest reception, set between two concrete boxes that showcase a timber formwork imprint, adding a unique texture to the exterior. U House is a perfect blend of soft and hard materials, offering various spatial experiences that change with the seasons.
